About the Event
Clean Air Day, launched in 2017 by Global Action Plan, is held every third Thursday in June. It raises awareness of air pollution’s impacts on health and the environment, encouraging individuals, communities, schools, businesses, and local authorities to take action. The campaign provides resources for events and petitions to influence policy, such as cleaner transport.
Air pollution is linked to thousands of premature deaths annually in the UK. Past campaigns have increased public prioritisation of the issue, with more people choosing active travel over cars. Global Action Plan collaborates with organisations to mobilise the Clean Air movement.
The day promotes simple actions like reducing car idling, walking or cycling, and advocating for systemic changes to eliminate fossil fuel use in urban areas.
