About the Event
The Big Plastic Count is a citizen science initiative run by Greenpeace UK and Everyday Plastic. Participants from households, schools, communities, and businesses count their plastic packaging waste over one week to reveal the scale of the UK’s plastic crisis and pressure the government for action on plastic pollution. Previous counts showed UK households produce nearly 100 billion pieces of plastic packaging annually, with only 12% recycled domestically. The 2026 count aims to gather more evidence amid global plastics treaty negotiations. No physical venue is required; participants count waste at home or school.
