About the Event
The International Day of Action for Rivers is a global movement dedicated to protecting and restoring the world’s rivers. Organized by International Rivers, this annual event brings together communities, businesses, and environmental groups to raise awareness of the importance of free-flowing rivers and their role in sustaining biodiversity, clean water, and healthy ecosystems.
This year, we’re calling on individuals and organizations to take action through: River clean-up initiatives
Awareness campaigns & educational workshops
Policy advocacy for sustainable water management
Social media activism using #RiversUniteUs
Why This Matters
Rivers are lifelines for our planet, supplying freshwater, supporting ecosystems, and sustaining communities. Yet, they face increasing threats from pollution, climate change, and industrial exploitation. By participating in this global day of action, we can:
Protect Water Resources – Prevent pollution and ensure clean drinking water for future generations.
Combat Climate Change – Healthy rivers help regulate climate patterns and support biodiversity.
Benefit Businesses – Sustainable water management is key for industries that rely on water, including agriculture, energy, and tourism. Companies that prioritize sustainability enhance their reputation, attract eco-conscious consumers, and future-proof their operations.
