Net Zero North East England Summit 2023
November 6, 2023 @ 9:30 am - 4:00 pm
Net Zero North East England Summit 2023 will take place on Monday 6 November at The Crowne Plaza, Newcastle.
This event marks a year from the launch of Net Zero North East England, a partnership created to accelerate and celebrate North East England’s transition to a greener, fairer, and more sustainable future.
We look forward to welcoming organisations of all shapes and sizes to be part of the event, whatever stage they’re at in their own net zero journey and to leave with a deeper understanding of the net zero landscape, practical advice and guidance on how to progress their journey, and critically, feeling inspired to champion a net zero culture within their organisations.

Net Zero North East England Summit – the main event
This session will be hosted by our Joint – Chair, Heidi Mottram CBE. It’s here that we will celebrate some of the great progress the North East has made towards net zero, look at what the data is telling us and how we are monitoring our progress towards our targets and we’ll be doing a deep dive into the Greenhouse Gas Protocol – the world’s most widely used greenhouse accounting standards.
Afternoon insights sessions
Where to start… practical advice and support for your business’ net zero journey
In this practical session, we are bringing together a group of experts who can signpost to the advice and support available to support you on your net zero journey. We’ll also bring in experts who can explain why a commitment to net zero is so important for growing your business in the future.
Leading by example, organisations in our region that are creating a sustainable future…
We’ve invited some organisations to share with us their net zero journey, where they have looked at all elements of the greenhouse gas protocol and adopted working practices and principles to create sustainable organisations from the business activities in their direct control, to how they are engaging their supply chains. You’ll have the opportunity to ask them questions about their journey and to consider how their actions could inspire activity in your own organisation.
Policy that drives impact – challenges and opportunities
Understanding net-zero policy is essential for addressing the urgent challenges posed by climate change, protecting the environment, promoting economic growth, and ensuring a sustainable and equitable future for all. Our partnership needs to work collectively to work towards a net-zero future, with active engagement from local and national governments, businesses, and communities. This session will look at some of the current policy positions and the opportunities and challenges this brings.
