UK SME EV Infrastructure Grant: Up to £15,000 Toward Workplace and Fleet Chargepoints (Open to Mar 2026)

UK SME EV Charging Grant: Up to £15,000 for Staff & Fleet Chargepoints

Quick summary

The UK government provides grants to help small and medium-sized businesses install workplace and fleet EV chargepoints. The scheme runs until 31 March 2026 and covers installation, sockets and associated electrical/building work.

Key facts

  • Eligible businesses: up to 249 employees, registered at Companies House or VAT-registered with HMRC; properties in the UK (excludes Channel Islands & Isle of Man).
  • Grant value: covers 75% of eligible costs up to a maximum of £15,000. Payments are capped at £350 per chargepoint socket and £500 per parking space enabled with infrastructure.
  • Minimum works: applicants must install at least one socket and carry out work on at least five parking spaces (either fitted or prepared for future sockets). Chargepoints must be for staff and fleet use only (not public).
  • Installers & equipment: work must be done by OZEV-approved installers using eligible commercial chargepoints. Installers submit claims and the grant is paid to them, deducted from your invoice.
  • Limits/exclusions: up to five grants across five sites per business; recipients must not exceed £315,000 in minimal financial assistance over three financial years. Cannot claim for chargepoints that are mandatory under building/planning rules.
  • Compliance: property owners/managers must assess and maintain fire-safety measures. OZEV may audit installations and can withdraw registration if site visits are refused.
  • Application: via the OZEV Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grants portal. You need a UK mobile phone, an email address and a Companies House or VAT number. A helpline and guidance are on the grants portal.

Practical next steps

  1. Check your site: confirm electrical capacity, distribution board spare capacity and parking layout.
  2. Get quotes: request multiple quotes from OZEV-approved installers and confirm which commercial chargepoint models are eligible.
  3. Plan for extras: include load-management hardware, cable routing, trenching/conduit and any building works in costings.
  4. Prepare application info: have your Companies House or VAT number, site details, and contact details ready for the OZEV portal.
  5. Schedule works and claims: agree with your installer how they will submit the claim and deduct the grant from your invoice.

How SBS can help

  • Site assessment checklist and capacity review.
  • Shortlist and vet OZEV-approved installers (quotes comparison and scope checks).
  • Prepare claim documentation and cross-check compliance requirements (fire safety, eligibility, evidence pack).
  • Project quality assurance during installation and handover preparation for potential audits.

If you’d like help with any of the steps above, tell me which site details you can share (number of parking spaces, current electrical supply, Companies House or VAT status) and I’ll outline a tailored plan and next actions.
