SBS Compass is carbon accounting software for UK businesses that need to measure, reduce and report Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. It is built by SBS, the sustainability consultancy that has supported 250+ UK businesses across carbon, compliance and procurement.
What Compass does
- Measures Scope 1, Scope 2 (market and location based) and all 15 Scope 3 categories.
- Calculates Scope 3 from activity, spend or supplier data, depending on what you upload from the template.
- Produces your Carbon Footprint Report, 1-Page Summary Report and PPN 006 Carbon Reduction Plan, included on every plan.
- Generates conformance assessments against ISO 14064-1, ISO 14068-1, SBTi (inventory readiness), NHS Evergreen and PAS 2080. These are assessments, not reports. They are add-ons or included on managed plans.
- Generates your SECR report where it applies to your business (add-on on Standard, Foundation and Growth; included on Enterprise plans).
- Sends supplier surveys to collect data from your supply chain (every plan except Foundation).
- Includes a materiality assessment for your relevant material categories on every plan.
- Includes SBS IQ, an assistant that answers questions from a knowledge base curated by SBS.
- Includes the Compliance Checker and Legal Register on every plan.

What is SBS Compass?
SBS Compass is carbon accounting software for UK businesses that need to measure, reduce and report Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. It is built by SBS, the sustainability consultancy that has supported 250+ UK businesses across carbon, compliance and procurement.
Who is it for?
Micro and small businesses, growing SMEs, charities and VCSEs, and businesses answering carbon questions in tenders or supply chain requests. If you advise other businesses, you can licence Compass for your clients.
Does it cover Scope 3?
Yes, all 15 categories, calculated from activity, spend or supplier data depending on what you upload.
Can it produce a SECR report?
Yes, where SECR applies to your business. The Compliance Checker identifies whether it does when you onboard. It is an additional paid option on Standard, Foundation and Growth, and included on Enterprise plans. It is not available on Micro.
Which reports are included?
The Carbon Footprint Report, the 1-Page Summary Report and the PPN 006 Carbon Reduction Plan are included on every plan. Conformance assessments are an additional paid option, or included on managed plans.
Do I need a consultant?
No. Software-only plans are self-serve with chat support. Managed plans add SBS time.
How much does it cost?

Where is my data stored?
Your Compass data is stored in a UK data centre (London), hosted by Supabase on AWS.
Does the Compass web app store my data?
No. The web app is static code delivered through a global network and holds no client data.
Does SBS IQ search the internet?
No. SBS IQ answers only from a knowledge base curated by SBS, and no web search or other tools are used.
Does SBS IQ read my own data?
No. Today it answers from the SBS knowledge base only.
What does SBS IQ send to an AI provider?
Your question and the most relevant passages are sent to Anthropic to write the answer. Your question is also sent to Voyage AI, which turns it into a search vector to find those passages. No organisation or user identifiers are sent. Please do not include confidential information in your question. Under its commercial terms, Anthropic does not use this data to train its models, and it processes requests outside the UK.
Does AI touch my data anywhere else?
Yes, in two other features. Conformance assessment narratives send your scores, questionnaire responses and Scope 1, 2 and 3 totals to Anthropic. QuickBooks account mapping sends account names and sample transaction descriptions to Anthropic.
